ActiveTarget 2 vs LiveScope Plus vs MEGA 360 Which Live Sonar Is Right for You in 2026

Live sonar has changed modern fishing. Anglers can now see fish move in real time instead of interpreting delayed sonar returns. Whether you fish offshore structure, shallow flats, or suspended bait schools, live sonar gives you an immediate advantage.

However, choosing the right system can be confusing. In 2026, three technologies dominate the conversation. ActiveTarget 2, LiveScope Plus, and MEGA 360 each offer a different approach to underwater imaging.

In this guide, Black Label Marine Group explains the differences so you can determine which live sonar system fits your boat and your fishing style.

What Is Live Sonar

Live sonar provides continuous real time imaging beneath and around your boat. Unlike traditional sonar, which refreshes in pulses, live sonar shows movement instantly. You can watch fish react to your lure, track schools, and understand structure more clearly.

Live sonar is especially valuable for:

• Tracking suspended fish
• Vertical jigging
• Locating roaming bait
• Fishing offshore wrecks
• Working shallow water structure

Now let us compare the three leading systems.

Lowrance ActiveTarget 2

ActiveTarget 2 is designed for detailed forward and downward real time imaging. It provides multiple viewing modes, including forward, down, scout, and flasher.

Strengths

• Strong target separation
• Clear fish movement tracking
• Excellent for vertical techniques
• Effective for close structure fishing

Best For

Anglers who want precision and detail when working structure, jigging vertically, or sight fishing around bait. ActiveTarget 2 excels when you need to focus on a specific target and monitor behavior closely.

Garmin LiveScope Plus

LiveScope Plus is one of the most widely adopted live sonar systems in the industry. It offers forward and down imaging with consistent clarity across different depths.

Strengths

• Clear real time detail
• Strong performance in both shallow and deeper water
• Smooth integration with compatible Garmin displays
• Reliable performance across conditions

Best For

Anglers who want a well rounded system that performs across multiple fishing styles. LiveScope Plus offers versatility and strong clarity, making it a popular choice for both inshore and offshore boats.

Humminbird MEGA 360

MEGA 360 takes a different approach. Instead of focusing only forward or downward, it scans a full circle around the boat.

Strengths

• True 360 degree imaging
• Excellent structure awareness
• Strong shallow water performance
• Wide area situational awareness

Best For

Anglers who prioritize scanning broad areas and understanding structure around the entire hull. MEGA 360 provides a complete picture of what surrounds your boat, which is extremely useful in flats and ledge fishing scenarios.

Comparing the Three Systems

When choosing a live sonar system, consider how you fish.

If you focus on vertical jigging and watching fish react to your lure in real time, ActiveTarget 2 provides excellent detail.

If you want a balanced system that performs well in many conditions, LiveScope Plus delivers consistent results.

If understanding structure around your entire boat is your priority, MEGA 360 offers unmatched circular awareness.

There is no single best system. The right choice depends on your boat layout, display brand, and fishing style.

Why Professional Installation Matters

Live sonar systems require precise installation. Transducer placement, alignment, and cable routing directly impact performance.

Improper installation can cause:

• Distorted images
• Reduced clarity
• Signal interference
• Poor target separation

At Black Label Marine Group, our rigging team installs live sonar systems with precision and attention to detail. We ensure:

• Proper transducer positioning
• Clean wiring and secure routing
• Correct networking with compatible displays
• Reliable performance in saltwater environments

Whether you are running a Sea Fox, Caymas, or another offshore platform, our team ensures your live sonar system performs exactly as intended.

Final Thoughts

Live sonar continues to evolve in 2026. ActiveTarget 2, LiveScope Plus, and MEGA 360 each offer powerful tools that can transform how you fish.

Choosing the right system requires understanding how you fish and how your boat is configured.
